World Building Workshop: Inspiring Your World Design

About this workshop

Climate Spring’s World Building workshops help unlock our imagination to create compelling  stories across genres that envision life beyond fossil fuels and extractive systems. We offer practical frameworks that turn climate science, technology and solutions into creative inspiration. We explore what creating relatable near-future worlds and regenerative storytelling can look and feel like, along with the ideas and principles that can get us there.

This workshop is focused on World Design as a way to develop stories that show the regenerative ways we need to transition to. You’ll explore how to embed regenerative world building frameworks to inspire and enhance the design and structure of your story world, without compromising on entertaining, compelling storytelling.

Who is this workshop for?

Writers, directors, producers and script editors developing a new scripted project, who are keen to integrate regenerative world building into their story and inspire their projects with new ideas.

What does this workshop cover?‍

• You’ll work to design a regenerative world structure, exploring how it might reflect both the reality of climate challenges we face and the transformations needed to address them.
• Through guided exercises, we’ll introduce the journey of system transformation and some of the patterns that could underlie regenerative worlds. 
• There will be a mix of presentations as well as guided working and development time. You'll be part of a small group, but you’ll be working individually on your own project throughout the session.

A note on IP and your project info:

You will NOT need to share information or IP about your project, that will be kept to yourself.

What you’ll gain:

• Design worlds with depth and complexity, reflecting different stages of transformation towards a regenerative future. 
• Insight into how societies transform, and the roles systems can play within those shifts. 
• A framework of patterns you can use for world building.
• Practical tools you can continue using in your own writing and development practices.

The greatest challenge we face right now is a sense that the future is scary, out of our control or already written. In order to face the current ecological crisis, we urgently need engaging, exciting and relatable stories that connect our hearts and minds to what scientists are telling us - that change is still possible. The power of storytelling is to show what a regenerative future can look and feel like, to illuminate solutions and inspire paths towards creating a better and fairer future for all. 

As part of Climate Spring’s year-long world building programme, we hold regular online workshops designed to equip screen industry creatives with practical tools to help unlock our imagination to create compelling stories that envision life beyond fossil fuels and extractive systems. We offer practical frameworks that turn climate science, technology and solutions into creative inspiration, without sacrificing commercially compelling and creative storytelling.

Please note: Regular online workshops will be run throughout the year, across different time-zones to accommodate our global community. Each workshop is designed as a stand-alone session and can be attended individually.
